David McDowell Brown (April 16, 1956 - February 1, 2003) was a United States Navy officer and NASA astronaut who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. He served as a mission specialist in his final flight aboard Columbia, which tragically disintegrated during re-entry. Brown's contributions to space exploration and his role as a space shuttle pilot have been remembered as part of NASA's legacy.
