David John Mabberley is a British botanist, educator, and writer born in May 1948 in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. He is known for his work in the taxonomy of tropical plants, particularly trees from the Labiatae, Meliaceae, and Rutaceae families. Mabberley's most recognized contribution is his book, 'The Plant-book,' a portable dictionary of vascular plants, first published in 1987. The 3rd edition was released in 2008 and received the Engler Medal in Silver in 2009. The 4th edition of 'Mabberley's Plant-book' was published in 2017.
