He is known for his contributions to children's comics such as The Beano and The Dandy, where he illustrated iconic characters including Billy Whizz and Dennis the Menace. Parkins has illustrated over fifty children's picture books, has worked for notable publications including The Guardian and The Economist, and has also drawn editorial cartoons. His artistic journey began later in life, and he shifted from wildlife illustration to graphic design, eventually becoming a successful freelance illustrator.
