David Stern III, also known as David J. Stern, was an American prose fiction writer and scriptwriter, born on September 2, 1909, and passed away on November 22, 2003. He sometimes wrote under the pseudonym Peter Stirling, notable for his character Francis the Talking Mule. Stern also served as a publisher for a New Orleans newspaper and was the son of the prominent newspaper publisher J. David Stern.
