David Vilaseca Pérez was a Catalan writer and philologist born in Barcelona on February 6, 1964. He graduated in philology from the University of Barcelona and later taught Spanish studies and literary criticism at Royal Holloway College, University of London. He specialized in Catalan and Spanish literature and conducted studies on homosexuality in autobiographies. In 2007, he won the Andròmina Prize for narrative with his novel 'L'aprenentatge de la soledat'. He tragically died in London on February 9, 2010, after being hit by a truck while cycling.
