A prolific author, he published around 100 short stories and 20 books, receiving accolades such as the Governor General's award for his novels The Pillar and Digby. His works often inspired films, including Geordie and Harry Black. Beyond writing, he was involved in community service, holding leadership roles in conservation organizations. Walker was honored with an honorary doctorate and became a Member of the Order of Canada before his death in 1992.
