He began his career in the 1970s as a sound engineer, notably working on David Bowie's tours. In the 1980s, he joined John Cale's backing band and collaborated on projects with various artists. Young was a significant member of Element of Crime for 35 years, contributing to fourteen studio albums as a sound engineer, producer, and bassist until shortly before his passing on August 31, 2022.
