Admiral Daya W. K. Sandagiri was the 14th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. Born in Veyangoda, he studied at Saint Mary's College and Kegalu Vidyalaya. He joined the then Ceylon Navy as a cadet on November 14, 1966, being part of the first cadet batch at the Naval and Maritime Academy. He served as a Commander for four years and eight months before being promoted to Chief of Defence Staff and eventually Full Admiral, retiring from the Navy on June 12, 2005. In 2006, he became the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
