Deb Haaland (born December 2, 1960) is an American politician currently serving as the United States Secretary of the Interior. She was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Mexico's 1st congressional district from 2019 until her resignation on March 16, 2021. Haaland was the chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party from 2015 to 2017. As one of the first Native American women elected to Congress, she is a registered member of the Laguna Pueblo and is known for her progressive policies supporting the Green New Deal and universal healthcare.
