Deborah Elizabeth Harkness is an American novelist and a professor of history at the University of Southern California, born on April 5, 1965. Her debut work is the All Souls Trilogy published by Penguin Books, which includes A Discovery of Witches (2011), Shadow of Night (2012), and The Book of Life (2014). The first book was adapted into a television series titled A Discovery of Witches, featuring Saudi actress Aiysha Hart. Harkness's second work is the novel Time's Convert (2018), set during the American War of Independence and the French Renaissance.
