Delano Meriwether, born April 23, 1943, is a former American sprinter known for winning a bronze medal in the 100 meters at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali. He became the U.S. champion in the 100 yards in 1971 and a U.S. indoor champion in 60 yards in 1972. Notably, he was the first African American accepted at Duke University School of Medicine. Meriwether served as a White House Fellow in 1973/74 and led the national influenza vaccination program in 1976. He practiced medicine in South Africa for eight years with his wife, Nomvimbi, and their daughter, Nana, was crowned Miss USA in 2012.
