Dénes Petz (1953–2018) was a Hungarian mathematical physicist and quantum information theorist known for his significant contributions to quantum entropy inequalities, quantum f-divergences, and quantum statistical inference. His work on quantum Fisher information and monotone metrics in quantum information geometry is notable. Petz was the first to propose a quantum generalization of Rényi relative entropy, demonstrating its data processing inequality. An accomplished author, he coauthored several widely-read textbooks on quantum information theory and a book on mathematical physics.
