Denise Giardina is an American novelist known for her works that explore Appalachian culture and issues. Her notable books include 'Storming Heaven', which won the W. D. Weatherford Award, and 'The Unquiet Earth', recognized with an American Book Award. Giardina's novel 'Saints and Villains' earned the Boston Book Review fiction prize and was a semifinalist for the International Dublin Literary Award. In addition to her literary accomplishments, she is an ordained Episcopal deacon, an activist, and has run as a candidate for governor of West Virginia.
