Derek Birnage (1913-2004) was a British comic book publisher, writer, and newspaper editor, best known for founding the weekly sports magazine 'Tiger' and creating the illustrated series 'Roy of the Rovers'. He began his career under Reg Ives, worked as deputy editor of 'The Champion', and wrote the detective story 'Colwyn Dane'. During WWII, he served in signals, later returning to publishing. Birnage published annual comics and returned to the print industry with IPC, overseeing several titles until his retirement. He was married and had three children.
