Joining the army in 1969, he served in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, where he earned recognition for reportedly destroying seven Indian tanks and received the Tamgha-i-Jurat award. Following the war, he took a three-year deputation with the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
