Derek Parfit (1942-2017) was a British philosopher renowned for his work on personal identity, rationality, ethics, and their interrelation. He spent his academic career at the University of Oxford and held visiting professorships at New York University, Harvard University, and Rutgers University. Parfit received the Rolf Schoen Prize in 2014 for his significant contributions to personal identity, the analysis of ethical theories, and shaping future generations' mindsets. In addition to philosophy, he was also a photographer and was married to philosopher Janet Radcliffe Richards until his death.
