Initially known as Desiré Manthey, she adopted the surname Gardner after her marriage to Chris. She gained fame for her role as nurse Daleen Oosthuizen in the kykNET soap opera Binnelanders, which she left in December 2015 to join Suidooster. Gardner's education includes a B.A. in Drama and a film training certificate. Her early career involved children's puppet theatre and notable stage performances.
