Desislava Petrova is a Bulgarian LGBTQ rights activist born on December 12, 1980. She is the former president of BGO Gemini, the largest LGBTQ rights organization in Bulgaria. Since 2000, she has advocated for equal rights for the LGBTQ community. Petrova emerged as the first publicly visible lesbian in Bulgaria in 2001, championing anti-discrimination legislation and registered partnerships. An independent environmental activist, she was arrested in a protest for the Strandzha natural park in 2007. Petrova has also contributed to national legal reforms regarding discrimination protection.
