Desmond Boal was a Northern Irish unionist politician and barrister who served as a member of the Ulster Unionist Party in the Parliament of Northern Ireland for the Shankill constituency from 1960 to 1972. Critical of Prime Minister Terence O'Neill's leadership, he opposed attempts to improve relations with the Irish government and nationalists. In 1971, discontent with subsequent leaders led him to resign from the UUP and co-found the Democratic Unionist Party, where he served as its first chairman. He practiced law again after his political career.
