Desmond Ellis is an Irish Sinn Féin politician born on September 23, 1953. He has been a Teachta Dála for the Dublin North-West constituency since the 2011 general election. Previously, he was involved with the Provisional IRA during the 1970s and 1980s, leading to his arrest in 1981. After fleeing to the US and being recaptured, Ellis was sentenced to 10 years for explosives possession. He was the first person extradited from Ireland to the UK in 1990 for terrorism charges but was acquitted in 1991, later entering constitutional politics in 1999.
