Dezső Fábián was a Hungarian swimmer and water polo player born in Budapest on December 17, 1918. He competed between the 1930s and 1950s, beginning his career in swimming before focusing on water polo. He won a silver medal at the 1948 London Olympics and followed that with a gold medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics in the same sport. Additionally, he secured the Hungarian water polo league title in 1943 and four national swimming championships from 1937 to 1941. He transitioned to coaching roles after 1960.
