Dhanapala Weerasekera was a notable Ceylonese politician born on 26 May 1924. A member of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party, he served in parliament for several terms, representing the Ratnapura and Dehiowita electorates across different general elections from 1960 to 1970. He was born in Pelmadulla and was married to Joyce Eleanor Pinto Jayawardena, with whom he had two daughters. Although he ran for the Deraniyagala seat in the 1977 elections, he was unsuccessful. He passed away on 24 February 2011.
