Dhirendra Patnaik (original name: Dhirendra Nath Patnaik, 1933 - 2009) was a notable Odia dance researcher and literature figure. He played a pivotal role as the Principal of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and initiated the Jayantika festival in the 1950s to strengthen the classical dance movement in Odisha. His efforts helped Odishi attain classical status after 60 years. He was the author of the first Odia book 'Odishi Nrutya' and wrote a total of 18 works in Odia and English about Odishan culture. He co-founded the Odisha Dance Academy and researched traditional Odishan dance forms.
