Diego García-Sayán, born on August 2, 1950, is a former Minister of Justice and Foreign Affairs of Peru and a former judge at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. He served as the President of the Court from 2010 to 2012. On August 15, 2014, the Peruvian government officially announced his candidacy for the position of Secretary General of the Organization of American States for the upcoming 2015 elections. However, he unilaterally withdrew his candidacy on October 1, 2014, citing a lack of adequate government support for his campaign.
