Diego Mercado Marín was a Mexican football player and coach, born on May 17, 1929, in Mexico. As a player, he played in the 1950s for teams such as CD Cuautla and Club Necaxa. He managed the Mexican national team at the 1969 CONCACAF Nations Cup and co-led the Mexico Olympic team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Mercado began coaching in the 1959/60 season and notably led CF Monterrey to promotion to the Primera División. Later, he coached teams including UNAM Pumas and Deportivo Guadalajara, retiring from coaching in 1983/84.
