Diego Zapata Piñeiro was a Mexican activist born on December 13, 1916, in Tlaltizapán, Morelos. He co-founded the National Confederation of Peasants and the Secretariat of Agrarian Reform in his state. On March 8, 2001, he welcomed Zapatista commanders in Anenecuilco. He passed away on December 20, 2008, due to chronic renal failure. His remains were honored by politicians and peasants in Cuautla, where he was buried alongside his brother. He is survived by his wife and four children.
