He specialized in developing and manufacturing high-quality astronomical telescopes and accessories for both amateur and professional astronomers. Known for his precision, he treated smaller amateur models with the same craftsmanship as larger observatory instruments. His telescopes were available in Germany through Kosmos-Verlag until the early 1980s, after which they could only be ordered directly. He also initiated and worked on a database of variable stars, which was named after him.
