Rear Admiral (Junior Grade) Digby Thomson is a retired officer of the South African Navy who served as the Director of Maritime Warfare. He commanded the SAS Assegaai from 1999 to 2001, received promotions to naval captain in 2002 and rear admiral junior grade in 2015. His key positions included Fleet Operations Manager and Naval and Air Attaché to the USA. Thomson dealt with submarine warfare doctrine until 2015, culminating his service with a severance package in March 2017. His military accolades include multiple prestigious medals.
