Dimo Dichev Novakov (Kolev) was a Bulgarian politician associated with the Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP). He engaged in illegal communist activities in the early 1920s, emigrated to the Soviet Union, and participated in the Spanish Civil War and the Partisan movement in Bulgaria. After the September 9 coup in 1944, he became the first head of the State Security Department, leading it until 1947, during a time of widespread repression. Throughout his life, he held senior positions within the government and the BCP.
