Ding Yiping is a retired vice-admiral of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China, born in February 1951 in Xiangxiang, Hunan Province. He had a distinguished military career, serving as Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the PLAN, as well as Commander of the North Sea Fleet. However, his aspirations were curtailed following a tragic submarine accident in 2003. He later held various leadership roles before retiring in 2014, authored military publications, and played a pivotal role in naval training and civil-military relations discourse.
