She is the daughter of Jeremy Smith and Julia Burrell, and the granddaughter of Sir Walter Burrell, 8th Baronet. Married to John Grimston, 7th Earl of Verulam, they have four children. She served as High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2002 and was appointed Lord Lieutenant in 2007, retiring in 2017. A passionate artist, she specializes in collages and has exhibited her work widely.
