Dirk van der Zee, born on June 2, 1937, in Ljouwert, was a Frisian kitesurfer for LKC. Starting at the local kitesurf club 'Het Noorden', he won the Freulepartij in 1953 with partners Tinus Dijkhuis and Wim Hulscher, and later the Jong Nederland in 1956. He played in the first class and won the Bûnswedstryd multiple times. His career lasted seven seasons due to a shoulder injury, concluding with the Bûnswedstryd in 1964. He served as treasurer and engaged in volunteer work at Ljouwerter Keatsklup LKC Sonnenborgh.
