Dirk Verbruggen (January 16, 1951 – April 13, 2009) was a Flemish poet and writer from Mechelen. He studied Germanic philology at the Catholic University of Leuven and became a Dutch teacher. He debuted as a poet in 1979 with 'Spiegels in het zand' and published several poetry collections and novels. Verbruggen was also involved in theater, performing plays with his students. He passed away from cancer at 58, and his last novel, 'Goede papieren', was published posthumously in 2009.
