Rear Admiral Don A. Jones was an officer in multiple U.S. federal scientific organizations, including the Coast and Geodetic Survey Corps and its successors, the Environmental Science Services Administration Corps and the NOAA Corps. He held significant leadership positions, being the second and last Director of the ESSA Corps and the seventh and last Director of the Coast and Geodetic Survey. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and the Office of Strategic Services before rejoining the Coast and Geodetic Survey Corps.
