Don Flickinger was a notable military flight surgeon and a pioneer in aerospace medicine, retiring as a brigadier general from the U.S. Air Force. Born in 1907, he graduated from Stanford Medical School and became an expert in high altitude flight physiology. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service during World War II. Flickinger played a major role in astronaut medical testing and was involved with early astronaut programs, including Project Mercury. He passed away in 1997 and is interred in California.
