Donald Vincent Merton (February 22, 1939 - April 10, 2011) was a New Zealand ornithologist and environmental activist known for his efforts in saving the black robin from extinction. He also discovered the breeding habits of the kakapo in their mating areas, contributing significantly to the conservation efforts in New Zealand.
