Don Lee Fred Nilsen, born on October 19, 1934, is an American linguist and humor scholar. He holds the position of Professor of Linguistics in the emeritus College at Arizona State University. Nilsen has made significant contributions to the fields of semantics, deep cases, and humor studies. He co-founded the International Society for Humor Studies with his wife, Alleen Nilsen, and served as its executive secretary. Additionally, he was co-president of the American Name Society with Alleen Nilsen.
