Donald Alexander MacRae was a Canadian astronomer born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on February 19, 1916. He served as the Chair of the Department of Astronomy at the University of Toronto and was the Director of the David Dunlap Observatory from 1965 to 1978. A Harvard Ph.D. graduate in Astronomy (1943), he also featured in the NFB documentary Universe (1960). MacRae introduced radio astronomy to Toronto, devising a high-frequency radio telescope, although he did not publish his findings. He passed away on December 6, 2006, shortly after his wife.
