Donald 'Don' Ayler was an American jazz trumpeter known for his contributions to Free Jazz. Born on October 5, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the younger brother of renowned saxophonist Albert Ayler. He studied music at the Miller Academy and Cleveland Institute of Music and played in his father's band before gaining experience with Charles Tyler. Don joined his brother's quartet in 1964 and recorded several albums. After Albert's death in 1970, Don's career as a trumpeter faded, although he occasionally performed. He released recordings including a 1969 concert and an album set in Florence in 1981.
