Donald Alfred Chant was a Canadian entomologist and zoologist renowned for his contributions to biological control through the study of mites. Born in Toronto in 1928 and later relocating to Vancouver, he earned degrees from the University of British Columbia and a PhD from the University of London. Chant held prominent academic positions, including chair of the Department of Biological Control at UC Riverside and the Department of Zoology at the University of Toronto, where he served until his retirement in 1993. He was an advocate for environmental causes and a fellow of notable scientific societies.
