Donald E. Wimber was an American biologist known for his research in cytogenetics and for being an orchid breeder. He studied biology at San Diego State University and Claremont College, where he earned his PhD. He worked for Dos Pueblos Orchid Company and conducted studies on orchid chromosomes. Wimber served as an associate and later a full professor of biology at the University of Oregon. In 1963, he published significant work on propagating Cymbidium orchids through tissue culture, enabling rapid and cost-effective mass production of plants.
