Donald L. Turcotte, born on April 22, 1932, in Bellingham, Washington, is an American geophysicist. He studied at Caltech, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1954, followed by a doctorate in Aeronautical Engineering in 1958. Turcotte worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and then as an assistant professor at the US Naval Postgraduate School. He later became a professor in Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University and transitioned to geology there in 1973. He is known for his work in geodynamics, planetary geology, and dynamic systems theory. Turcotte has received numerous awards for his contributions to geoscience.
