Donald Low (May 2, 1945 - September 18, 2013) was a prominent Canadian microbiologist recognized for his pivotal role during the 2003 SARS outbreak. Serving as microbiologist-in-chief at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, from 1985 until his death, Low became a well-known figure during the crisis, providing calm leadership in public communication. He also specialized in necrotizing fasciitis caused by Group A streptococcus. In February 2013, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and advocated for assisted suicide before passing away at 68.
