Donát Šajner, born Jaroslav Šajner on January 24, 1914, in Soběslav, was a Czech writer, poet, and cultural politician after 1948. He worked in various jobs before becoming an editor for Czechoslovak Radio in 1957, and from 1972, he served as the secretary general of the Writers' Union. His literary works often explore the lives of ordinary people and the beauty of South Bohemia. Šajner began writing during the German occupation in the Protectorate period. He was also known for his children’s books and radio plays.
