Dora Pérez de Zárate, known by her pseudonym Eda Nela, was a Panamanian teacher, folklorist, and author born on March 9, 1912, in Panama City. She authored nearly thirty works dedicated to Panamanian folklore, including collections of poetry, short stories, plays, essays, children's books, and textbooks. A two-time winner of the Ricardo Miró Prize, she spent her life teaching Spanish and folklore and was instrumental in promoting cultural events such as the Semana del Maíz and the Festival de la Mejorana.
