José Dorángel Vargas Gómez, known as 'El comegente' (people eater), is a notorious Venezuelan serial killer and cannibal. Born on May 14, 1957, Vargas was a homeless man who hunted for victims in a park in San Cristobal, Táchira. He confessed to the gruesome killings and cannibalism of at least eleven men over two years before his arrest in 1999. His case shocked the nation and brought attention to issues surrounding homelessness and violence in Venezuela.
