She was elected to Regina City Council in 1985 and served as the first female interim Mayor. A member of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly from 1991, she held multiple ministerial roles and was the first woman Deputy Speaker. Hamilton was known for her contributions to women's representation in government and her commitment to public service. She passed away on December 2, 2022, leaving a legacy in Saskatchewan politics.
