She began her public service in 1960 as a member of the Town Council, eventually becoming its president for thirty-one years. After the passing of the first mayor, Ruth Hoke, Geeben was elected mayor and served without opposition in subsequent elections. Renowned for being the oldest mayor in the U.S., she passed away on January 11, 2010, shortly after feeling unwell and missing a town meeting.
