Dory Chamoun, born on November 8, 1931, in Deir el Qamar, is a Lebanese Maronite politician who has led the National Liberals Party since 1990, following the assassination of his brother Dani. He served as the party’s secretary general from 1975 to 1984, and was elected mayor of Deir el Qamar in 1998, holding the position until his resignation in 2008. An outspoken opponent of Syrian influence in Lebanon, he has been a harsh critic of Michel Aoun, despite previously supporting him during the Syrian mandate. He was elected as a member of parliament in 2009.
