Douglas Gray (1930–2017) was a New Zealand literary scholar, notable for being the first J. R. R. Tolkien Professor of English Literature and Language at the University of Oxford from 1980 to 1997. He started as an assistant lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington in 1952 and later pursued his studies at Merton College, Oxford.
